Assessing Liquefaction Potential with Precision

The Penetration Test

  • The Penetration Test is particularly valuable for a wide range of bulk materials, including iron ore fines and concentrates. Its ability to directly measure the shear strength of the material under controlled conditions makes it a powerful tool for predicting its behavior during transport.

  • By choosing eDOT Marine for your Penetration Test needs, you're choosing a partner who understands the importance of precision and reliability in cargo liquefaction risk assessment. Our commitment to quality, combined with our state-of-the-art facilities and experienced team, ensures that your cargo is evaluated with the utmost care and attention to detail.

Our Approach:

  • The Penetration Test (PTT), also known as the Penetrometer Test, is another vital tool in evaluating the liquefaction susceptibility of bulk cargo. This test measures the resistance of a prepared sample to the penetration of a bit under specific conditions, providing a direct correlation to its flow moisture point (FMP) and, consequently, its Transportable Moisture Limit (TML). The PTT is suitable for cargoes with particle sizes up to 25mm and is particularly useful for coal, mineral concentrates, and other similar materials exceeding 7mm in size.

  • At eDOT Marine Laboratory, we were the pioneers in India, being the first to install, calibrate, and utilize the PTT. We employ the standard Penetration Test equipment, ensuring that your cargo is assessed with the utmost accuracy and in full compliance with international standards.
